Episode 66 - The Door Opens Both Ways
Olivia woke early.
Not because of an alarm.
Because her tail stirred.
It knew before she did.
She got dressed slowly.
Dark slacks. Clean jacket. Tail through the slit she stitched in herself.
Ears perked. Calm.
She didn’t eat. Didn’t need to.
Instead, she reached for the lacquered box on her nightstand. She didn’t open it.
Just rested a hand on it for a moment.
A quiet promise. Not yet. But maybe.
The walk to the station was colder than usual. The sky the color of soft static. A fog rolled low around her ankles like forgotten tape reels.
She didn’t flinch.
The building greeted her before she touched the door.
Lights flicked on in the hallway. A mug warmed itself.
Monitor 6B was already on.
Fibb wagged his tail once, silently.
Her desk was in perfect order.
Even the pens stood at attention.
A note waited in her handwriting, though she hadn’t left one:
“Smile like you’ve always belonged.”
She did.
At 7:04 a.m., Lurch passed by the lobby.
He gave her a nod.
She returned it.
Nothing more was needed.
At 8:32 a.m., Bernard floated by.
He dropped a single reel on the counter.
“For When They Ask Too Much”
He did not linger.
At 8:59 a.m., Olivia adjusted her nameplate.
Straightened the logbooks.
Checked the first aid kits.
And breathed in the signal humming just beneath the floor.
At 9:00 a.m., the front door opened.
They stepped inside.
A small group this time.
One in a suit.
One in a lab coat.
One… who did not blink, wearing a holster with a very large gun.
Olivia smiled.
“Welcome to OtherWorlds TV.”
She reached for the visitor log.
And the day began.
